Travis Weik
Travis Weik is the group editor over newspapers in New Castle, Shelbyville, Connersville and Marion. He is the managing editor for the New Castle Courier-Times and the Marion Chronicle-Tribune.
Travis was a Spring 2024 Higher Ed Media Fellow, part of the ECMC Foundation’s CTE Leadership Collaborative.
Travis became a newspaper reporter in 2014, when he realized he could get paid to attend school board meetings and tell people about them.
Now leading multiple newsrooms, Travis focuses on building community relationships, celebrating local community members, highlighting state and federal policy effects on rural Indiana communities and amplifying underserved voices.
Travis came to journalism the long way around. He holds a sociology degree from the American Military University, which he earned during his time as a medic in the Indiana National Guard.
In his spare time, Travis serves on multiple local non-profit boards, participates in the occasional community theater performance and tries to beat his most recent mini-marathon time. He and wife Dayna enjoy escape rooms and giving their fur-babies their best lives.
